Context
Reed Peak is a digital imprint for non-fiction books, specialising in endurance, extreme sports and human performance. As a new publisher, Reed Peak focuses on a small number of books, with the determination to turn each into a bestseller. They also want their books to play a positive part in people’s lives long after the excitement of the launch.
The brief
DH was brought in to develop Reed Peak’s brand identity, as well as designing and building their website. It was important to Reed Peak that their public image exemplified professionalism and class - with this being a new, smaller publisher, matching up to the reputations of larger competitors would be a significant challenge.
Brand
The play on the word for “read” and the association of peaks with goals, aims, and targets to strive for, led to the idea to combine symbols of such words. The corners of written pages, something readers and writers are all too familiar with, highlight the connection to books. Within the logo icon, page corners are aligned in such a way, with one folded, to appear as two mountain tops, or peaks. This logo design is a nod to the imprint name, and aims to be clear in its double meaning.
The colours used are subtle. Like watercolour paints, the pastel colour palette provides a paper-like tone, fitting in well with the logo iconography. The font choice is a sans-serif, to be in-keeping of the rectangular shapes used within the icon itself.

Reed Peak’s key statement is ‘the peak of modern writing’. It was therefore crucial that their main digital touch point aligned with this message; offering a modern, fresh look, while providing a great user experience.
Angled background elements provide a striking, dynamic design. All forms, such as their contact form and newsletter subscription form, make use of the folded paper icon that we see within their logo and brand identity.
